At this time of year, we ask you to once again include the Marin Symphony in your year-end giving plans and give as much as you can.
The most profound aspect of music is how it makes us feel— can you imagine a life without music? When you think of people, humanity and history, you think of the arts. The arts identify who we are as a people. It’s our responsibility to take care of our own, to take care of the future, so we can set the example of what needs to be done when we’re not here. It’s our time to make a difference and with all of the strength that we have whether it be financial or time, but the fact is this is the time.” –Zuill Bailey, cellist
I think you will agree with my friend, world-renowned cellist Zuill Bailey that it is hard to imagine a life without music. We were thrilled to host Zuill during our opening Masterworks concerts this season in October. Zuill returned to the Marin Symphony with the same exquisite precision of talent, sharing his gift with our patrons and orchestra. This year however, we were not only able to host him at our concerts, but in our schools and community, bringing Zuill outside of the concert hall and into our lives. Zuill spent the week preceding the concerts visiting over 15 Marin County Schools touching the lives of more than 2,000 students and 10 additional community organizations reaching more than 3,000 people!
As I begin my fourteenth year as your Music Director, I want to personally thank you for your generosity over the course of our 62-year history. I am honored to call you our friend and partner in bringing music to the Marin community. Today I am writing to you to once again ask you for your support—we need it now more than ever to continue these vital programs.
Last season we asked you to support the Marin Symphony at a higher level, we are grateful to say that this community rose to the occasion, raising more for the Marin Symphony in one season than ever before! Thank you for the vote of confidence, this season we want to continue to provide you with a range of programs that aims to bring music to all, including young families new to orchestral music and patrons who have been supporting for decades. Did you know that ticket sales only account for 40% of our overall operating budget? Without the generous support of individuals, sponsors and foundations, tickets prices would be cost prohibitive for most patrons.
We are thrilled to report that this year we have a generous member of our board who has issued the following challenge: if we can raise $125,000 in donations by January 31, 2015, this individual will contribute $25,000 to the Marin Symphony! All gift amounts are welcome and will count towards this challenge, and gifts of $1,500 or higher will accelerate our efforts to meet the goal on or before the deadline. This is another exciting opportunity for us to raise additional funds this year so that we continue bringing programs to the community such as the first-ever Visiting Artist Residency Program launched this year with cellist Zuill Bailey.
I am asking you to include the Marin Symphony in your year-end giving plans and donate as much as you possibly can by sending your contribution today. Every dollar that you invest in the Marin Symphony helps us to continue the programs you’ve seen recently, bringing music to your Marin community, but we simply cannot do it without your support.
Thank you for your generosity and best wishes for a happy holiday season, which we hope will include attending one or more of our upcoming concerts: the December 6 and 7 Holiday Choral Concerts by Candlelight and the December 16 Holiday Pops Concert. We hope you Love it. LIVE!
P.S. We hope you will support our challenge. Please make your gift today!

Did you know that ticket sales account for only 40% of our overall expenses? Without the generous support of businesses, foundations and individuals like you to help keep ticket prices affordable we wouldn’t be able to continue providing the programs such as the ones you have been witnessing in our 61st and 62nd seasons!
