Marin Symphony Crescendo Orchestra
Conducted by Anne Lerner, the Marin Symphony Crescendo Program offers the opportunity for young musicians to learn standard orchestral ensemble techniques and develop their musicianship in a friendly and instructive environment. The Crescendo Orchestra is a full orchestral ensemble with combined strings, winds, brass, and percussion. The September-to-May season includes a winter and spring concert and a special visit to Skywalker Sound in Nicasio for an exclusive recording session. The performance repertoire includes arranged and original classical symphonic works chosen to expose players to the various style periods, from the Baroque to contemporary. See Crescendo YouTube Playlist.
Are you interested in becoming a member of one of our youth orchestras?
Youth ensemble annual auditions occur each September, with an option to audition mid-year in January.
See our Audition Requirements.
Rehearsals:
Sundays, 1:00 – 2:40pm, College of Marin Performing Arts Building, Kentfield
Eligibility: Participant age ranges from 10-17. Students must study privately with a teacher on their orchestral instrument. We strongly encourage all of our students to participate in their school music programs. Most members in the orchestra have been playing their instrument for two years or longer. Players should also be familiar with a variety of articulations, bow strokes, and dynamic control.
For auditions, please prepare scales and arpeggios and a representative solo work from your teacher. You will also be requested to play the orchestral excerpts from those provided prior to the audition, and a short sight-reading excerpt.
Additional Benefits: Members of the Crescendo Orchestra are granted free admission to all Marin Symphony concerts in Marin Center (Marin Symphony Holiday Concerts and Prelude Recitals excluded). They also receive family member discounts entitling the purchase of two Marin Symphony concert tickets for the price of one.
Tuition for both semesters is $850 per student, payable in full by the first rehearsal. Note that payment by credit card will incur additional processing fees.
Membership in the Crescendo Orchestra is by audition only.
