About the Concert

Each year, the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra’s Children’s Sit-Along Concert introduces generations of young Marin residents to the joys of orchestral music! Audience members from approximately ages 5-10 are invited to literally sit alongside orchestra members to observe the sights, sounds, skills, and magic of musicianship firsthand!

After each piece, kids can change seats in order to experience each section of strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion (sort of like “musical chairs”). The presentation consists of about 30 minutes of musical excerpts from upcoming MSYO concerts, and about 15 minutes of discussion.

At the Petting Zoo after the concert, kids are encouraged into a hands-on experience where they try musical instruments for themselves. MSYO musicians assist young concertgoers in trying instruments sponsored by The Magic Flute music store. Local private music teachers are available to answer questions about your child’s interest in a musical instrument and how to participate in your school’s music program.

The concert is a community service by the Marin Symphony, which has forged the aspirations of many young musicians over the Youth Orchestra’s decades-long history.
