Visiting Artists

Great musical talents are often accompanied by great generosity. Our guest artists are delighted and willing to impart their understanding and learning onto Marin’s curious audience, be it through off-site visits to schools or retirement communities, or a Master Class. Many presentations are open to the public, where you can observe a top in the field sharing professional tips with students, or a short concert! Watch for announcements and RSVP sign-ups.

Fan meeting Zuill
Marin Symphony celebrated five years of partnership with cellist Zuill Bailey as Artistic Ambassador. We are so grateful to Zuill for helping to inspire so many in our community through great music. His rare combination of celebrated artistry, technical wizardry, and engaging personality touched classical music lovers of all ages and backgrounds.

Midori 2016-17 Orchestra Residencies Program

Midori Comes to Marin! – YouTube

The 2016-17 Season was a memorable one as the orchestra welcomed internationally acclaimed violinist, Midori, to Marin. The Marin Symphony and its Youth Orchestra were selected as the season’s sole recipient of her prestigious Orchestra Residencies Program award. Designed by Midori as a means of supporting the American youth orchestra, the Orchestra Residencies Program is a collaborative project which provides meaningful musical experiences for the next generation of classical musicians. The program helps establish the youth orchestra as a presence in the community, as well as build upon relationships with the local professional symphony, visiting artists, and administrative staff.

Over a period of several days, Midori participated in a wide range of activities tailored to optimize the involvement of the youth orchestra. Through Master Classes, performance workshops, and meals with Q&A sessions, a substantial portion of the residency is devoted to the youth orchestra and its members. During her tenure in Marin, Midori participated in the following:

  • Symphony Day: Friday, January 27, 2017: 4th grade classes were invited to Marin Center Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium to hear Midori perform with the Marin Symphony Youth Orchestra. The 45-minute concert tickets were free to Marin County Schools!
  • Midori School Visits: Midori was available for 30 minute visits to Marin County schools Thurs-Fri, January 26-27, 2017.
  • Orch’apalooza!: Concert with Marin Symphony Youth Ensembles: In the grand finale of her residency, Midori performed with all three of our youth orchestras on Sunday, January 29, 2017.
